Treating pets as part of the family is common, but some British pet owners are taking it to another level, according to a recent survey.

The study found that two in five pet owners in the UK think it’s acceptable to share a bath with their furry friends, and over a third (36%) are comfortable letting their pets eat from their fork.

The survey by technology firm SharkNinja also revealed that 36% of owners think it’s fine to kiss their pets on the mouth, and 45% allow their animals to lick their plates clean after meals.

Dressing pets in costumes is another popular trend, with 55% admitting to doing so, while 57% are okay with being slobbered by their pets.

Additionally, seven in ten owners share their bed with their pets, and over 80% confessed to frequently posting pictures of their pets on social media.

Etiquette expert John-Paul Stuthridge believes some owners take their affection for their pets too far.

He commented, “I understand the love for our furry friends. But if you wouldn’t show affection publicly with a friend or partner, why do it with a pet? A quick pat on the head is more than enough. Save the overt pet love for the home—the person in front of you deserves your full attention. As a dog owner, always assume that others may not be comfortable with your pet and let them warm up at their own pace.”

While many pet owners see no harm in these behaviors, the survey highlights how deeply embedded pets have become in their owners’ everyday lives, blurring the line between animals and human companions.
