A group of surfers in Costa Rica rescued a stranded baby pilot whale during low tide earlier this week. The exhausted calf was on the brink of drowning when the surfers decided to lend a helping hand.
On Wednesday morning, Mauricio Camareno and his friends had planned to catch some waves along a local beach. They stumbled upon a mysterious lump in the water near the mouth of a small river. As they approached, they heard the distressed cries of the stranded whale calf.

According to the Costa Rica Star, Camareno said the baby whale was “weak and could not keep afloat.” The group quickly abandoned their surfing plans and sprang into action to save the helpless creature.
The surfers worked together to carry the baby whale to deeper waters, closer to the open sea. The calf was so weak they had to hold her at the water’s surface to help her breathe.
As reported by Amelia Rueda, the rescuers persisted in their efforts for more than six hours, allowing the calf to regain her strength.
Their dedication paid off. During high tide, the surfers guided the baby whale to deeper waters, where she could finally swim away independently. Their selfless act serves as an inspiring reminder of human compassion for nature.
