Scarlett Johansson’s Marvel character, Natasha Romanov, has fans worldwide, but her nine-year-old daughter, Rose, isn’t one of them.
The actress, currently starring alongside Channing Tatum in Fly Me to the Moon, shared that Rose finds the Avengers movies and Black Widow too intense to watch.
“She likes that I play Black Widow, but she’s too scared to watch an Avengers movie,” Johansson told People. “She’s just like, ‘It’s violent.’ And I’m like, ‘Oh God,’” the actress explained.
Johansson shares Rose with her former husband, French journalist Romain Dauriac. While Rose may not be a fan of the superhero action, she seems fine with her mom’s latest role in Fly Me to the Moon.
In the film, Johansson plays a con artist who helps orchestrate a fake moon landing for the U.S. government in 1969.
“I think she’s mostly excited about the hair and makeup,” Johansson said, adding, “She’s girly, and it’s fun for her.”
The film, which premiered on July 11, also includes a cameo from Johansson’s husband, Saturday Night Live star Colin Jost. However, Johansson was not involved in that casting decision.
“The director, Greg Berlanti, asked Colin to do the cameo,” Johansson explained. “He and Colin are both comedy writers and share a similar sense of humor. Greg thought it would be fun to have him in the film, but I didn’t want to be the one to ask him.”
The couple, who have been married for four years, are also parents to a two-year-old son named Cosmo.
Despite their shared profession, Johansson and Jost rarely work together. While she has been a frequent guest on SNL, they don’t often perform together.
“We’ve worked together when he’s written stuff for me on SNL, but we’ve never really performed together,” Johansson noted.
In addition to her acting career, Johansson has been working behind the camera. She’s directing her first full-length feature film, Eleanor the Great, which tells the story of a unique friendship between a 90-year-old woman and a 19-year-old.
