Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost weren’t bogged down with extensive wedding details. Instead, the actress and Saturday Night Live star planned their intimate wedding in just a few weeks, as reported by People on Wednesday.
The couple tied the knot at Johansson’s historic home in the New York suburbs, a four-bedroom residence she purchased for $4 million in 2018.
The wedding, attended only by close friends and family, was described as “quiet” and “private,” per an insider’s comments to People. “They wanted a small ceremony with their loved ones and made it happen,” the source added.
Johansson’s house provided an ideal setting for the celebration. The colonial-style home, built in 1953, features hardwood floors, French windows, and a spacious backyard with a brick patio overlooking the Hudson River. Guests could also enjoy a large swimming pool and a cabana, which served as the reception area.
The couple, who began dating in 2017 and became engaged in May 2019, were seen wearing their new wedding bands shortly after the ceremony.
The Meals on Wheels America Instagram shared news of the wedding, stating, “Scarlett Johansson and Colin Jost were married over the weekend in an intimate ceremony with immediate family and loved ones.”
The post also mentioned that the couple followed COVID-19 guidelines and asked fans to donate to Meals on Wheels to celebrate their union.
The announcement featured an image of the Staten Island Ferry with the words “Jost Married” — a nod to Jost’s Staten Island roots. Meals on Wheels provides meals to vulnerable people across the country.
Johansson, previously married to actor Ryan Reynolds and French journalist Romain Dauriac (with whom she shares a six-year-old daughter, Rose), walked down the aisle for the third time. For Jost, a longtime SNL writer and co-anchor of “Weekend Update,” this is his first marriage.
The COVID-19 pandemic initially disrupted the couple’s wedding plans, with Jost expressing concerns about gathering elderly relatives.
Speaking to Andy Cohen earlier in 2020, Jost said, “This is not the time to get all your elderly, at-risk relatives together in one big group.”
He added on The Ellen DeGeneres Show that while he has no immediate plans to leave SNL, the pandemic made him appreciate his job more.
Jost had previously shared his nervousness about marriage but admitted that he ultimately embraced it. “I was so scared of marriage for so long,” he remarked, explaining that his views changed after getting engaged to Johansson.
On the same day the wedding news broke, Johansson appeared on the cover of Marie Claire to promote her upcoming film, Black Widow.
She spoke about her approach to choosing roles, noting the importance of empathy for her characters, regardless of their morals.
