Honorary Oscar winner Samuel L. Jackson shared a memorable wedding gift he gave to Ryan Reynolds and Scarlett Johansson during their 2008 wedding on Vancouver Island: ten pounds of bees.
Jackson recalled how he was inspired to gift the unusual present after spending time with Johansson on the set of The Spirit, where they discussed their shared interest in nature.
In a recent interview with Vulture, Jackson explained that he instructed his assistant to purchase the bees and even bought them bee suits to accompany the gift. “They kept bees for a while and got honey for a couple of years while married. Then one day, the bees abandoned the hive,” he said.
The couple enjoyed their honey production for a couple of years before separating in December 2010, shortly after Reynolds met his future wife, Blake Lively, on the set of Green Lantern.
In September, Reynolds and Lively celebrated ten years of marriage. They are parents to three daughters and a newborn, and they live in their $5 million home in Upstate New York.
Reflecting on her previous marriage, Johansson spoke on The Goop Podcast about her relationship with Reynolds.
She mentioned appreciating his qualities but realized she needed a partner who embodied more compassion. “It’s hard to be in a relationship because you have to compromise, and sometimes your lives separate and come back together,” she explained.
Johansson emphasized the importance of understanding the fundamental qualities necessary for a partner to succeed.
Scarlett Johansson is now married to Colin Jost, co-head writer of Saturday Night Live, and they welcomed their son Cosmo in 2021.
She also has an eight-year-old daughter, Rose Dorothy Dauriac, from her previous marriage to Romain Dauriac, which ended in 2017.
Meanwhile, Samuel L. Jackson will celebrate his 43rd anniversary with LaTanya Richardson on August 18.
The couple, who met while attending Morehouse College, recently worked together on a Netflix adaptation of August Wilson’s play The Piano Lesson.
They share a daughter, Zoe Jackson, an executive producer for Project Greenlight: A New Generation.
Jackson remains a prominent figure in Hollywood, serving as an executive producer and star in the Marvel series Secret Invasion, which wraps up next Wednesday on Disney+.
He is also recognized as the second-highest all-time box office star, with a remarkable total gross exceeding $27 billion.
