How do you part with a dearly loved pet?
The pain of losing Jackie, my cherished dog, still lingers even after saying farewell. It’s a heartache that many can relate to but not everyone experiences such profound sorrow. My heart was shattered anew upon learning about a dog left forlorn in an empty house with no food or water for sustenance.
This unfortunate canine survived a grueling week on his own, barely able to hold on. Fortunately, help arrived just in time to save him.
Suzette Hall, the founder of Logan’s Legacy in Irvine, California, has encountered numerous heart-wrenching situations through her animal rescue efforts. Yet, the story of a dog confined in an abandoned house was particularly alarming for her.
She quickly reached out to her friend, Kym Marie, who went to the location immediately. What Kym observed was profoundly distressing.
“He was almost on the verge of giving up, left behind after the owners moved away, hidden in a spot so small, bound by a leash,” Hall described on Facebook.
The dog lay curled up, trying to sleep away his despair while suffering from severe dehydration and hunger, having not eaten or drunk anything for a whole week.
“It had been roughly a week since the owners moved out, and the conditions were extremely hot. They hadn’t left behind even a morsel of food or a drop of water. It was Kym who fed and hydrated him for the first time in days,” Hall explained.
After offering sustenance and comfort, Hall and Kym devised a plan to transport him safely.
They approached him slowly, whispering soothing words and extending gentle pats. Despite being cautious, the dog allowed himself to be lifted into Hall’s car.
It marked the beginning of a brighter future—and the relief was palpable.
When Hall witnessed the dog wag his tail for the first time, it was a moment full of emotional impact.
“As I picked him up, he wiggled his frail little tail. Our hearts were touched deeply. His gums appeared pale,” Hall noted.
His demeanor shifted as if he understood rescue had arrived. Instead of feeling defensive, he softened and leaned into Hall, placing his trust fully in her.
Hall rushed him to a vet, eager to restore his sense of safety.
“I brought him to my vet swiftly, promising him that we would return the joy to his life,” the rescuer from California concluded.
After enduring abandonment and a painful, isolated week, this courageous pup now has a hopeful future. His new life will be filled with the warmth, care, and love he has always deserved.
