Caring for a pet with disabilities is not an easy task, and unfortunately, many owners shy away from such commitments. This was the case for Lunetta, a lovely dog found abandoned and tied to a railing on a street in Salta, Argentina.
Discovered by an employee at a nearby dog facility, Lunetta’s condition was distressing. Her back legs were bound to a rusty wheelchair, and she was left alone on the pavement without food or water.
Beside her lay a bag of diapers and a note explaining her name, age, and that her owners could no longer care for her.
In response, the rescue group Luba Salta was notified, and two volunteers quickly assessed Lunetta’s health and brought her to safety.
She was placed in a foster home as her story began circulating on Facebook, with hopes of finding a family willing to welcome a paralyzed dog.
An American family soon expressed interest in adopting Lunetta, offering a glimmer of hope. Unfortunately, they were not prepared to meet her needs, and this neglect led to Lunetta developing a severe staph infection.
Her health took a turn for the worse.
Just as things looked bleak, another American family came forward, offering her the care and love she desperately needed. With their devotion, Lunetta made a remarkable recovery and enjoyed the comfort of a genuine home for the first time.
Her days became filled with joy as she shared her life with a canine sister, roamed with the help of a specially tailored wheelchair, and embarked on countless adventures.
Lunetta experienced the joy of running in parks, playing in the snow, and celebrating Christmas with her family.
Sadly, time eventually caught up with Lunetta. Shortly after her 11th birthday, illness struck, and she was taken to the intensive care unit at the University Medical Hospital. Despite her courageous fight, she passed away surrounded by her loving family.
Her adoptive mother expressed her feelings through a touching message on Facebook: “I will never forget her and how much she meant to me. She changed my life forever. I loved her so much.”
Although Lunetta’s journey has ended, her final year was rich with the love and happiness she so deserved. Her story serves as a powerful reminder that every dog, regardless of their condition, deserves a chance to be happy.
