Animal rescuer Demi, associated with Rescue Paws Curaçao, recently saved two dogs from a dumping ground, as reported by the organization.
Rescue Paws is diligently supporting Demi with this rescue operation. Here’s what Demi shared about the experience:
“Yesterday started just as usual—morning routine, and then off to work. During my commute, I always pass by a well-known site where dogs, both deceased and alive, are often abandoned.

My own dog was rescued from there, and just last week, I found two puppies, Milli and Mia, at the same location. I frequently bring food to the dogs inhabiting that area and keep an eye out for familiar faces, including a woman I often encounter.
As I neared the large feeder where dogs gather, I noticed something unusual. Stopping my car to investigate, I discovered two malnourished dogs among a pile of bones.
They were unfamiliar to me, suggesting they had been dumped recently, perhaps since the previous evening when I last drove by.

Demi recounted witnessing one of the dogs share food with the other, as if trying to help its companion. One dog was too weak to move and was found with a chain around its neck, which was later removed.
We offered them food and water, which they gratefully accepted.
Though I had to continue to work, my thoughts stayed with them. I shared their photos and my concerns with colleagues, fearing someone else might find them and not offer help.

These dogs resemble Finn and Kay, two others we rescued in a similar state of neglect and wearing collars.
After a few hours, my workplace allowed me to leave and rescue the dogs. I rushed back, still in my wetsuit, relieved to find them still there. I immediately took them to a veterinarian.
When I asked for an honest assessment, knowing the limitations of what could be done if they were too ill, the vet diagnosed them with malnourishment and a probable, though less severe, condition known as carpathian disease.

With a positive outlook, the vet administered necessary medication, outlining a treatment plan that includes follow-up shots, as their weak stomachs can’t handle oral medication.
For now, their diet consists primarily of small servings of chicken and rice multiple times a day, with plans to reassess their condition in a week.
Both dogs weigh only nine pounds, matching the weight of a 15-week-old foster puppy. The male is the frailer of the two, struggling to walk independently. Despite this, they are eating and drinking.

Now, both dogs are safe at the Rescue Paws Curaçao facility, kept separate from the other seven dogs, including six foster animals.
The team is committed to doing whatever it takes to help them recover, hoping that their dedicated care will ensure these dogs survive and thrive.”
