The Timeless Allure of the Golden Ratio in Beauty

Last Update:

During the Renaissance, famous artists and architects developed a mathematical concept known as the “golden ratio” to create visually pleasing masterpieces. Today, scientists use this same formula to explain why certain people are considered beautiful.

The golden ratio is found by dividing a line into two parts, such that the ratio of the longer part to the more minor part is the same as the ratio of the whole length to the longer part.

This ratio has been admired for centuries and is considered a standard of beauty, particularly in facial symmetry.

Scarlett Johansson’s body proportions score 1.560 on this scale, with the ideal beauty standard being 1.618. This score was determined by overlaying a golden ratio grid on full-length photos of Johansson.

Emily Bendell, founder of Bluebella Lingerie, noted, “We were pleased to see that women’s figures were all very different, varying from athletic and slim to voluptuous and curvy, which shows that you do not have to have a skinny model-like physique to be beautiful.”

The analysis revealed that all the celebrities studied fell within ±10% of the golden ratio, regardless of their varying body shapes and sizes.
