Jess, a lifelong dog lover, hadn’t anticipated the impact one particular dog would have on her life. During a three-week stay at a holiday rental, Jess found an unexpected visitor on her doorstep each morning—a stray dog seeking warmth and care.
Although initially cautious, the dog’s persistence paid off. After experiencing a bit of affection from Jess, the dog, whom she named Roo, decided to stick around and even made a habit of sleeping under the house. Little did Roo know that this decision would change everything.

Despite Roo’s frail appearance, which suggested she hadn’t eaten in days, she managed to keep a hopeful smile. “When we first saw her she almost didn’t even look like a dog,” Jess shared with Cuddle Buddies. “She was hunched over eating some food, and she was so skinny. She was just small and frail as well.”
Roo’s unwavering spirit and charm quickly won Jess over. As the weeks passed, Jess realized she couldn’t part with Roo. It was clear that Roo deserved a permanent, loving home, and Jess was determined to provide it.
With this revelation behind them, Jess and Roo embarked on their new life together. Roo, who had been just a shadow of the dog she could be, began to blossom. Over time, she grew both in size and spirit, eventually quadrupling her original weight. “I was told she wouldn’t grow much more, but fast forward to now, she’s quadrupled in size,” Jess mentioned.

Before the final step of adoption, a trip to the vet revealed a surprising fact about Roo. Contrary to Jess’s initial assumption, Roo wasn’t a 12-week-old puppy but rather a six-month-old dog already. “I thought she was a 12-week-old German shepherd mix; after a trip to the vets, it turns out she was already 6 months old and weighing 4.9 kg,” Jess shared on Instagram.
Roo’s playful personality gradually emerged as she indulged in the occasional mischief and enjoyed splashing in every puddle she encountered. Jess couldn’t have been more delighted to see her thriving, as Roo’s transformation into a sociable and adventurous companion was truly remarkable.

Roo soon became a beloved friend, embracing the role of a city dog and always eager for new adventures and making friends along the way. Jess felt incredibly blessed that Roo had come into her life, describing it as if Roo had chosen her. “I’m forever grateful for my little sidekick Ru and it’s very obvious she’s loving life too,” Jess expressed in another one of her posts.
Now, Roo enjoys a life full of joy and security, a stark contrast to her uncertain past. With a loving home and endless adventures ahead, Roo relishes every moment of her newfound happiness.
