Many of us grew up laughing at the antics of Wile E. Coyote on TV, but encountering real-life coyotes can be far from amusing, especially for pet owners who worry about their pets becoming prey.
This concern became a reality for Meredith Warfel and her family in Arizona when they thought a coyote had paid them a visit. One evening, a mysterious animal resembling a coyote appeared in their yard under the cover of night. What they didn’t realize was that this unexpected guest would become a beloved member of their family.

For a week, the animal continued to visit Meredith’s yard. When Meredith captured a photo of the creature and posted it online, she received numerous comments identifying it as a coyote. Nevertheless, Meredith had her doubts.
Contrary to the sly prairie predator’s reputation, this animal seemed friendly and even made itself comfortable on their patio furniture. Meredith’s instincts were right on the mark—the animal wasn’t a coyote at all. It was, in fact, a dog, likely abandoned on a nearby hiking trail, searching for a new home.
“We really have no information about her past. My guess is someone might have left her on the hiking trail near our home, and she found her way to us,” Meredith explained in a video.

Seeing the dog’s poor condition, the Warfel family acted quickly, taking her to a local humane society in the hope that her owners would come forward. They named her Luna and hoped for the best.
For three days, the family visited Luna at the shelter, holding onto hope that her original owners would appear. Unfortunately, no one claimed her. However, the story didn’t end there, as fate had a happier plan for Luna. She found her forever home with the Warfel family.
Returning to their doorstep, Luna became a permanent member of Meredith’s family. She fit right in, earning the title of the family’s princess due to her sweet nature and affectionate personality.

Luna quickly adapted to her new life, loving nothing more than curling up for snuggles, lounging on the couch, and showering her family with affection. Her knack for bonding extended to her human siblings and the family’s cats, forming heartwarming relationships.
“She’s incredibly loyal and adores the kids,” Meredith shared. “She’s very affectionate and will claim your lap in no time.”
Luna now enjoys her life to the fullest, from playing frisbee and sunbathing on floaties to swimming in the pool. Regardless of her unclear breed, Luna’s family believes she is absolutely perfect and feels grateful to have her as part of their family.
