Being abandoned is a profound challenge for any dog, yet for some, it paves the way to a brighter future. Such is the story of a puppy named Trekker.
Trekker’s journey began when she was left alone in the vast expanse of San Diego’s Cleveland National Forest. Despite the odds, she survived over two weeks, navigating the wild dangers of predators like mountain lions and coyotes.
Amidst feelings of fear and hunger, Trekker’s tale took a turn. While walking through the forest, a woman spotted what seemed to be a small animal in the distance. Upon closer inspection, she realized it was not a wild creature—but a scared and lonely dog.
The woman saw Trekker perched on a slope, making direct rescue impossible. Unwilling to abandon her, she set up a feeding station nearby, hoping to gain Trekker’s trust.
Gratefully, Trekker accepted the nourishment, possibly her first substantial meal in many days.
Determined to help further, the woman contacted Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy, an animal rescue organization based in Irvine, California.
Hall immediately sprang into action, navigating through the forest’s tricky roads without hesitation. Her focus was solely on rescuing Trekker.
“I couldn’t shake the thought of how scared and hungry she was,” Hall recounted. “Her location was incredibly remote.”
Upon arrival, Hall set a humane trap, optimistic that Trekker would soon step inside. Still, Trekker remained wary and stayed away for two days.
On the third morning, Hall’s persistence paid off. Trekker was found inside the trap, her tail wagging—a silent sign she was ready for help.
She was quickly taken to a local shelter, where staff discovered a surprising fact: Trekker had been recently adopted but then abandoned. Fortunately, Hall already had a plan for her.
After a health check-up, Trekker went to live with Sharon Kelly, an experienced foster mom. In this caring environment, Trekker began to thrive, displaying her strong and affectionate nature.
She provided her foster family with plenty of love while she waited for permanent adoption.
“She is a miracle, a survivor, and she has been rescued,” Hall expressed.
Before long, Trekker’s forever home was found. A compassionate family adopted her, ready to provide the affection she so deserved.
“She has found perfect love and a perfect family. She’ll be cherished and adored. I am overjoyed for her; she deserves all the love and happiness,” Hall shared on Facebook.
Trekker quickly adapted to her new family, forming strong bonds with both her human caretakers and a fellow canine companion. Her expressions of joy spoke volumes: she finally felt at home.
What began as a story of abandonment and fear transformed into one of love and security for Trekker, highlighting her resilience and the kindness of those who refused to leave her behind.
