When truck drivers pulled into a sand pit in Crosby, Texas, to collect materials, they stumbled upon an abandoned dog waiting hopefully for someone. The forlorn pup seemed to be watching for her owners, not realizing they had left her behind.
The drivers quickly reached out to Megan, whose family owns the sand pit, to help the dog. Unfortunately, abandoned animals are not a rare sight there, and this is how Megan became involved in aiding these animals.

Megan made sure the dog, later named Dutchie, was well-fed by sending food daily. The drivers also chipped in by carrying dog food and taking photos and videos of Dutchie for Megan. Upon receiving the footage, Megan posted about Dutchie on her Facebook page, hoping someone could foster her.
With regular updates and dedicated attention from the truck drivers, Megan kept up with Dutchie’s well-being. The patient drivers tried to win her trust, even though she frequently retreated to sleep on a pile of tires in the pit.
Help came from Lola’s Lucky Day, an organization focused on rescuing homeless dogs in Houston and Dallas, who found a foster family for Dutchie. Thrilled by the news, Megan immediately rushed to bring Dutchie to safety.

“It was a relief and a joy, like a party. Once there’s a solution, I can’t leave them suffering any longer,” Megan expressed.
Searching the sand pit, Megan eventually found Dutchie hiding among the black tires, which blended seamlessly with her dark fur. The dog’s head emerged as she recognized her rescuer’s familiar voice, and she greeted Megan warmly.
“She was excited and friendly, coming straight up to me for food and affection,” Megan recalled.
After gaining her trust, Megan managed to leash Dutchie. The sweet-natured dog eagerly accepted a belly rub from Megan as she melted any remaining apprehension.

Dutchie spent the night at Megan’s home, reveling in the comfort of a real home. “Running in the backyard, she could feel the grass and it must have felt so different, like truly being at home,” Megan shared.
The following day, Megan delivered Dutchie to her foster parents, Kaitlin and Lauren. While Dutchie was initially cautious in her new environment, she desperately sought companionship.
A vet diagnosed Dutchie with heartworm, identified an injured ankle, and noted hip problems. However, after treatment, she slowly began to recover.

With patient and loving care from her foster family, Dutchie gradually opened up. Love and a nurturing environment allowed her to relax, and she soon enjoyed cuddles with her foster family.
Dutchie transformed into a joyful and confident dog, ready to leave her past behind and embrace each new day with a happy smile.
