Lisa Raulerson, a West Palm Beach, Florida resident, experienced a heartbreaking ordeal when her beloved West Highland White Terrier, Sparky, went missing. The incident occurred when Lisa opened her door, allowing Sparky to wander off.

Sparky, who is 14 years old and partially deaf, held a special place in Lisa’s family. Lisa and her daughter were deeply attached to their dog and treated him like a cherished family member.

When they realized Sparky was missing, they searched tirelessly for him, fearing that his hearing impairment would make it difficult for him to respond to their calls.

For two weeks, the family scoured the neighborhood, posted flyers, and even offered a reward for Sparky’s safe return.

Despite their efforts, there was no sign of the senior dog, and Lisa began to lose hope that they would ever find him.

Months later, as Lisa was browsing a social media page, she came across a photo of a dog resembling Sparky. The dog had been found by Palm Beach Animal Control and was listed as a stray.

Though Sparky had been microchipped, the contact information associated with his chip was outdated, leading animal control to treat him as an unclaimed stray. This placed Sparky at risk of being euthanized.

Fortunately, Sunshine State Westie Rescue intervened just in time and rescued Sparky. When Lisa saw the picture, she immediately contacted the shelter.

After confirming Sparky’s identity— with even the veterinarian who originally microchipped him vouching for the match—Lisa and Sparky were joyfully reunited, ending a 331-day separation.
