They initially spotted two lionesses resting in the shade, seeking relief from the heat. After returning to camp for brunch, Geyser and his group decided to revisit the lions, curious to see if anything had changed.

Upon returning, they noticed the lions were no longer in the shade. Surprisingly, they saw the lions attacking a roan antelope just 15 meters away.

This intense scene unfolded before their eyes, making them the only witnesses to the battle.

At first, Geyser and his group were excited to witness such a rare event in broad daylight. However, as the day went on, their feelings shifted to a mix of sorrow and admiration for the roan antelope’s struggle for survival.

The roan fought valiantly, battered and bruised. By late afternoon, the roan and the lions lay in the shade, mere meters apart, as if a temporary truce had been established.

The next morning, Geyser returned to the scene but found no trace of the animals. It is believed that the roan antelope may have succumbed to its injuries during the night, though the exact outcome remains uncertain.

Reflecting on the experience, Geyser remarked that he has been fortunate to witness many rare animal sightings and behaviors across Southern Africa. Still, this particular encounter stands out as the most touching and memorable. He felt a deep emotional connection to the events that unfolded before him.

The article also notes that Latest Sightings collects and maps thousands of wildlife sightings shared by their community across various African parks.

Their interactive maps assist visitors in planning their routes in the parks based on real-time data, and their eGuide provides further help in spotting animals during park visits.
