Unlike the typical human response of hurriedly exiting the water at the sight of such a massive serpent, Bove demonstrated remarkable courage and curiosity.
Green anacondas, known as formidable predators, usually inhabit the murky waters of South American swamps and marshes.
However, the crystal-clear waters of the Formoso River in Brazil offer a unique opportunity for humans to dive with these creatures safely.
Teaming up with his diving partner, Juca Ygarape, Bove was fortunate to come across this awe-inspiring creature during their underwater excursion.
As Bove described to whatzviral, the anaconda they encountered was an enormous female measuring an astonishing 7 meters (approximately 23 feet) and weighing around 90 kilograms (about 200 pounds).
Contrary to common perceptions of anacondas as aggressive and dangerous, this giant snake exhibited a surprisingly playful demeanor.
Ignoring the presence of the divers, the anaconda even showed curiosity towards their camera. “The anaconda swims calm and peaceful, completely indifferent to our presence.
Sometimes she comes closer, curious about my camera, licking the lens,” Bove shared, dispelling the misconception of their aggressiveness.
Anacondas, while impressive predators are also creatures that command respect and care. Feeding primarily on local animals like wild pigs, birds, capybaras, jaguars, and turtles, their diet contributes to their substantial size.
These serpents subdue their prey by coiling their massive bodies around them, employing constriction to subdue and eventually consume their meal.
Bove emphasized, “It is without a doubt an extremely strong predator and the largest of all snakes that can react if threatened or molested, to be treated with a lot of respect.”
Bove’s intent in capturing this astonishing encounter on video was to challenge the prevailing notion of anacondas as solely aggressive beings. He hopes that this footage will highlight the gentler side of these creatures.
Reflecting on the experience, Bove expressed, “It was an unbelievable experience. No words can do justice to the sensations I felt during that experience.”
This remarkable underwater rendezvous is a testament to the surprising and captivating aspects of these magnificent creatures, shattering the stereotypes that have long surrounded them.
