Despite his blindness, Buddy leads a joyful life and has garnered a global fanbase with his musical talents.
Buddy Mercury, an eight-year-old beagle mix, lives in Long Island, New York, with his owners, Laurie and Glen Wolfe, and their five-year-old daughter, affectionately known as “Lil Sis.” The Wolfes adopted Buddy from a North Carolina animal shelter in 2016 after he was found as a stray.
Since then, he has been a beloved member of their family, especially bonding with their daughter, who arrived a year later.
Buddy’s musical journey began unexpectedly three months after his adoption. One day, while watching TV, Glen hears piano keys playing and discovers Buddy at the piano.
This unusual talent emerged in response to nearby fire station sirens, and soon Buddy was incorporating piano playing into his daily routine.
Laurie shared that Buddy’s happiness is evident when he plays the piano, often wagging his tail. Glen, a professional drummer, recalled a memorable viral video where their daughter joined in with a guitar, creating a magical musical moment with Buddy. This marked the beginning of Buddy’s rise to internet fame.
In the summer of 2021, Buddy’s health took a turn when he was diagnosed with progressive retinal atrophy, a genetic condition leading to blindness.
Despite this, their veterinarian advised maintaining Buddy’s piano routine to keep him happy. This guidance brought tears and smiles to the wolves, who were determined to support Buddy.
To ensure Buddy’s well-being, the Wolfes administer eye drops and help him navigate despite occasional bumps.
Their daughter’s love for singing complements Buddy’s piano playing, forming a delightful family band.
Beyond bringing joy to their family, Laurie and Glen use their musical duo to promote animal adoption.
