Chata Gil, a warm-hearted Californian residing in Los Angeles, recently experienced a life-changing trip to El Salvador. During her visit, she was deeply moved by the sight of numerous abandoned dogs roaming the streets.
While dining, Chata noticed a dog scrounging for food among restaurant tables. Ignored and labeled “ugly” by others, the poor animal faced rejection and indifference from passersby.

Despite receiving criticism and mockery from onlookers, Chata decided to offer the dog some food. The encounter stayed on her mind long after, prompting her to search for the dog, which she eventually found huddled alone on the street. Concerned for its safety, she approached the terrified animal with kindness and fed it again to rebuild trust. With the help of the Miracles of Love Association in El Salvador, she arranged for the dog’s veterinary care.
Thanks to the veterinary examination, Chata discovered that the dog’s condition wasn’t as dire as its appearance suggested. At first, she considered euthanasia due to the visible suffering but then sought a second chance for the animal after learning more about its health.

In her quest to secure the dog’s future, Chata reached out to the Saving Huey Foundation based in the United States. The organization agreed to assist in the rescue and rehabilitation of the dog, now affectionately named “Sal.” Chata was scheduled to return to the U.S. shortly after making these arrangements.
Currently, Sal is receiving medical treatment in El Salvador. Once fully recovered, plans are in place to relocate him to Southern California for a brighter future. The rescue group has also enlisted the help of Tracy Lystra from the Saving Huey Foundation to keep tabs on Sal’s recovery and manage his veterinary expenses through PayPal.
