While driving near an elementary school in Austin, Texas, a man came across a troubling scene that caught his attention. He witnessed a woman lifting her dog and abandoning it inside a children’s playground by leaning over the fence. Shocked by her actions, the man immediately stopped his car and approached the woman.
The woman explained that she had tried to take her dog to a shelter but was turned away. After she left, the distressed puppy began to cry and run in circles, desperately trying to follow her owner. With the woman no longer visible, the dejected dog sat by the fence, gazing into the distance with sadness.
Determined to help, the man attempted to calm the anxious puppy before calling his wife, Maddy Cantu, to join him. Upon seeing the abandoned dog, Cantu was moved by the animal’s sorrowful eyes and found it hard to understand how someone could leave such a sweet creature behind. The couple soon gained the pup’s trust despite her initial fear.
Cantu gently picked up the puppy, and together with her husband, they decided to take the dog home temporarily until they found a loving, permanent family for her. Once at their home, the couple bathed the puppy and began caring for her.
Initially named Daisy, the pup was still nervous and shook with fright. Cantu comforted her by holding her close, showering her with affection, which helped Daisy gradually relax. With the couple’s continued love and care, Daisy started to settle in, enjoying her cozy new bed and the attention from her foster parents. She formed a bond with them, expressing her gratitude with sweet kisses.
Though the initial plan was to foster Daisy temporarily, the couple soon realized they were deeply attached to her. They couldn’t bear the thought of parting with the loving pup, so they decided to make her a permanent member of their family. “We finally realized that Daisy was sent to us for a reason,” Cantu shared on her TikTok video, expressing how Daisy felt destined to be with them.
To ensure Daisy’s health, the couple took her to a vet who confirmed she was in good shape. Estimated to be around three to four months old, Daisy was believed to be a mix of German Shepherd and Great Pyrenees. Initially, Daisy’s new dog sibling, Lilo, was uncertain about her presence, but eventually, the two dogs started to get along.
“Lilo was indifferent at first, but once it became clear that we were keeping Daisy, she definitely started getting jealous. Since then, she’s warmed up to her, and we make sure to give Lilo plenty of love and attention,” Cantu explained to Newsweek.
Now, Daisy is thriving in her Austin home, her spirits lifted from the love and warmth of her new family. With bright eyes and a wagging tail, Daisy is a picture of happiness, knowing she has finally found a place where she belongs and is cherished.
