In Fayetteville, North Carolina, the staff at Cumberland County Animal Services responded quickly when they learned that a young dog, sleeping alone in a dumpster, needed help. Upon further investigation, they discovered the dog, named Sadie but later renamed Sydney, was a victim of severe mistreatment. The staff shared on Facebook that Sadie had been left in the dumpster by her previous owner after she bit back when physically disciplined for having an accident indoors.
Sydney was promptly taken to the shelter, where the team began looking for someone who could provide a safe and loving environment. Due to the circumstances of her past, the shelter sought to place her with a rescuer rather than a traditional adopter. With the urgent threat of euthanasia looming, the dedicated staff used social media to reach out, appealing to kind-hearted individuals who could offer this sweet pup a new home.
Their efforts paid off when Dochas n Gra Animal Rescue, located in Chesterfield, South Carolina, stepped up just in time to save Sydney. “She was on her last day and sick with an upper respiratory infection,” shared Victoria McGonigal, the founder of the rescue, while talking to People magazine. McGonigal felt immense joy in being able to grant Sydney another chance at life.
Sydney was taken in by a wonderful family ready to provide her with all the love and care she had been missing. “She loves everyone she meets, enjoys snuggles and kisses, and listens very well,” McGonigal said, highlighting Sydney’s affectionate nature.
Now away from harm, Sydney is finally able to relax and embrace a new chapter, leaving her troubled past behind. Her new caregivers are committed to her well-being by ensuring regular vet visits and quality time. Once Sydney fully recovers, she will begin the search for her forever home, where she will continue to experience plenty of love and care.
